Former employee arrested for fires at Lincoln mill

LINCOLN - A Lincoln man is being charged in connection with fires at the former Lincoln paper mill Wednesday.

David Parsons, 59 was arrested around noon Thursday. He's being charged with three counts of arson.

Officials said Parsons is a former employee at the mill.

Just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday the Lincoln Fire Department was called to a scale shed by Mill Street for reports of heavy smoke.

Mutual aid was called in and they were able to knock that fire down fairly quickly...

An hour later while firefighters were still at the initial scene massive flames could be seen coming from the Katahdin Avenue side of the mill.

Public Safety Director Daniel Summers said "It is odd to have two fires in one location, but there was also other activity going on too."

And there is no fire suppression here to begin with, all the fire suppression has been deactivated.

The scale house and the vacant storage shed were both destroyed in the fires.

A third fire at the mill's wastewater facility went out by itself.
